Today’s Artsy Fartsy Artist is Melody Lea Lamb. I found Melody through Google + and I think her artwork is fun and refreshing. Melody illustrates kids books, paints ACEO’s and recently started making jewelry. I love the whimsical nature of her work, and the vibrant colors. Her subjects are mostly animals, and of course you can’t go wrong there. Melody is also part of, Art 4 critters and Run 4 critters. They have raised over $52,000 since 2006. All the money goes towards animal charities. I love tree frogs!! They are so cute. Here is some more information about Melody, written by her sister. And some more great insight into her art, written by a friend of hers.
Is Melody an artist who can also talk to animals—or a lover of fur and paws who also draws like a dream? Her fans can’t tell where one gift ends and another begins. All they know is that the combination has led to some pretty interesting life circumstances, from teaching art in a chicken coop to composing watercolors on horseback. And that may also be why Melody’s renderings of fairies and forest vistas seem as alive as her portraits of horses and cats.
All creatures great or small, real or imaginary, inspire Melody’s brush.
Having done her time at art school and the gallery scene, with a successful series of commissions along the way, Melody now paints miniature masterpieces in the Berkshire Mountains while tending to a menagerie that includes a horse, a husband, three cats, two kids, and a dog … all of whom have modeled for her at one point or another.
Holding a Melody Lea Lamb miniature in your hand and gazing at a tiny mouse playing in a teacup or a good old hound’s trusting brown eyes the uncertain world tends to melt away. Imagination sprouts. Wonder takes flight. And you follow along happily.
Melody is a leader who delightfully takes us to what is good to remember: a world of beauty, calm nature and whimsy. This is art that makes us feel better if we are hurting and happier if we are blue. This is art that makes us say, “Aww.” Melody’s genuine positive outlook on life and her subtle hints of humor in her work lead us – for a few moments – away from uncertainty and chaos.
Whether it’s a miniature painting that catches your fancy or a pendant or Beaded Art, Melody’s inspiring outlook on the possibilities of our world shine through.
Melody has been painting miniature works of art known as ACEOs (Art Cards, Editions, and Originals) for over eight years. In addition to making small works of art, she illustrates children’s books, makes jewelry, and crafts unique-collectible art gifts.
What are ACEOs?
ACEO stands for Art Cards Editions and Originals, these small works of art measure 3.5 inches by 2.5 inches. The ACEO phenomenon was born on eBay and is enjoying great success. The miniature paintings are the same size as baseball trading cards, they are collected, stored in card sleeves and albums, framed in groups, and have become quite sought after.
Melody’s art is available from her website on Etsy, ArtFire, and Bonanza. Be sure to visit her website and look at all the great art. You’ll be glad you did.
