Rona sent me some information about her and her work. Rona Black has been taking pictures for a decade, but has been working more seriously on her photography for the past few years. She has no formal training in photography but has a background in the arts. Her first career was in the computer industry in the 80s. After that, she ran her family business in the 90s and then worked with The Philadelphia Orchestra. She moved to Salt Lake City in 2005 with her husband who works at the University of Utah. She was so struck by the natural beauty of Utah that she began to photograph it and became interested in developing her skills as a photographer.
In her images Rona experiments with color and detail, and lets the immediate local lighting conditions be her guide to revealing surprising aspects of the everyday world — from insects to globe thistles to elements of architecture. She is fascinated by the unexpectedly graceful forms of familiar objects like tomatoes and tires. Photography is her way of learning to pay closer attention and sharing the beauty she finds in things we often take for granted.Be sure and visit Rona’s website to see all her fantastic images.
