I love it when an artist contacts me about being featured on Artsy Fartsy Tuesday. It gives me the chance to find a great artist I would not have otherwise met. That was the case with Jesse. Jesse makes these really cute and awesome cards and magnets. She does hand carved block print of images that she loves. From dogs, to birds, to other nature themes. She then prints them on to re purposed paper and adds a cute quote.
Here is some of the process, taken from Jesse’s Etsy page.
I draw and carve single image block prints of beings and objects I love, including words. I use Sumi ink to hand-print on repurposed paper (dictionary, music, map, family bible), and I make reproductions using scanned print images paired with pithy quotes on magnets, cards, and perpetual calendars.
I print on dictionary, music, and family bible pages. I clean and hand-tear each sheet before printing, float each print on black acid-free matboard, and wrap each one in a clear, acid-free sleeve. I make them in 3 ready-to-frame sizes: 8×10, 9×12, and 11×14.
Jesse has a great Kickstarter going on right now too. She wants to raise the money to be able to mass produce her unique cards and get them into retail stores. I think the cards are awesome, and would do really well in stores.
This…is of course is my favorite.
This is very true!!
I hope you guys will join me in backing Jesse in her Kickstarter project. I think the world always needs more beauty.
