Hiking in Red canyon
Saturday we drove further north, and found a nice camp spot in the trees. We are near Bryce canyon national park. That afternoon we wandered and hiked near our campsite. Torrey and I were really glad to get out and walk after two days in Kanab and no hiking.
Sunday we hiked an area that is just west of Bryce called Red canyon. It’s very pretty and looks a lot like Bryce.

The best part is, it’s part of the Dixie national forest and not national park. And that means, dogs are welcome to hike too. We like to find places like this were dogs are not banned. We’re part of the family too, and like to do everything with our people. The day was nice and cool but pretty windy. Torrey and I were glad about the cooler weather. The wind doesn’t bother us, but mom and dad weren’t crazy about it. Check out mom’s new hiking shoes. Crazy looking huh? After hiking Buckskin gulch most of the way barefoot, both her and dad loved the way it made their feet feel and the connection to the ground they experienced. I guess they want to hike like us dogs. We’re always barefoot and very aware of where we’re going. Mom read the book “Barefoot runner” earlier in the year so she learned all about the advantage of being barefoot. Like how your feet are built to use all those muscles and shoes just weaken them. Your feet know the position they are supposed to be in, shoes don’t and they mostly get it wrong. Being barefoot makes you pay attention to the ground, instead of just charging along. Like I said, hiking like a dog does. The book mentions the Vibram 5 finger shoes. They are as close to barefoot as you can get. Very light and thin, flexible thin sole, and of course the toe pockets. Dogs go their whole life barefoot, so our feet are tough. People apparently need more foot protection. While we were in Kanab those 2 days, we went into a sporting good shop to look for a new Camelback back pack. They had the shoes there. Mom tried them on, and loved them. Dad really wants a pair too, but his feet are kind of weird. So he may not get to have them. Anyway, she loved hiking in them. A whole different experience she said. I guess people can be as smart as dogs, sometimes.

Hi Roxy,
Happy you found somewhere that Doggy’s could hike too – yay! I agree, you’re part of the family too, so why wouldn’t you want to join in?
Mum’s shoes look cool, my Mum has a pair of them for me (red ones), but so far I’m having nothing to do with them……:)
Have a great day,
Snoopy :)
Mom’s thought about shoes for Torrey, she hurt her toe nail the other day. Tore it back a little. I don’t know though.
Red Canyon looks absolutely stunning! It looks like you had a wonderful day!
We recently bought the New Balance Minimus trail shoes with the Vibram outsole. I’ve put about 30 running miles on them and LOVE them!
My merrell hikers have a vibram sole too. Good stuff.
Hey youse guys you sure sound like yer havin the big funs!!!
Bobo and Meja
Looks like another great hike. I love the photo of Roxie. We are suckers for small hiking dogs :)
I used to work at an outdoor store and remember when teh Five Fingers came out. Those things flew off the shelf. I know they have more than the one model now. I love the blue.
