Water on the Rocks
You may be thinking this is a thirsty post, and water on the rocks is just, well, ice water. But with it being Artsy Fartsy Tuesday today, it’s about art, and photo challenges instead.
This weeks challenge for 2LilOwls is water. I had the idea for this week, while we were still in Quartzsite. Of course there isn’t a lot of water in the desert, so I enlisted the hubbies help. I wanted to capture water as it hit this rock.
He poured the water slowly from a measuring cup, onto the rock. This was pretty cool actually, and I got several good shots. I had a hard time narrowing it down to just one. Here are two more from the photo shoot that I liked a lot.
This week was one for setting up shots. I don’t normally go this route, but sometimes it can give you some fun artistic options, and ideas to play around with. The Dogwood 52 prompt is Artistic-Orange. Trying to think of something artistic to do with the color orange had me stumped at first. Then I looked at my old Shasta can I found in the desert, and an idea formed.
I set this up a few different ways, but this one was the best. I then gave it an orangey treatment with split toning. I really like the way it turned out.
I also took this image and played around with it in Photoshop. I pushed the envelope a bit, but hey, there are no rules when it comes to art.

Those water hitting the rocks photos are great. You chose a perfect shutter speed so that we could see the “action” of the drops.
I also love the shasta can with orange peels. Great idea!

Water is such a fun thing to photograph as it has so many forms. Droplets on a leaf or the grass, water in motion, splashing water still water. Water makes a great, never ending subject!
Great idea with the Shasta orange! I like the first one best, and I also love what you did with the water hitting the rock.

Those are all very creative! I like the Shasta can in the first shot…it looks almost as if you found it there on the desert floor, bursting out of an orange!

Cool images. I like both ideas, the way you captured the water on the rocks and the setups of the orange. My favourite is the second of them. :-)
Water is such a dynamic subject, isn’t it?
Just keep in mind, we see lots of it. And we could always use in in-house (oops, I mean In-boat) photographer. :)
