In April, Al competed in the first Western Art Rodeo held at the Sundance resort in Utah. The WARA is a new art show concept, designed to help artists get their work in front of more people. Mixing the sport and judging of a real rodeo, with art in different categories, provides an exciting and unique venue for artists. The idea is simple, the artist can enter 2 works of art. The first piece goes into the first round. It is judged right there on the stage, and given a score. The second round, is exactly the same but with a different piece of art. The final round is the top four artists from each category, in both rounds. Artists enter a third piece, and the top three are chosen, and awarded prize money. The audience gets to watch all the judging, and the announcer keeps everyone up to date on what is going on. The next event is coming up November 3-5th, and will be held at the Heber Valley cowboy poetry. This has grown into one of the largest cowboy poetry events in the country. People come from all around the country to listen to the musicians and cowboy poets. The sign up for the Fall Shootout Western Art Rodeo is July 15th. Entries are limited to 10 competitors in each category, and are taken on a first come basis. This event will have a fine art gallery were all the artists can display their work. This will be a great venue for artists and spectators alike. If you are interested in competing in the first art sport, or know someone who is, click the banner below for more information.
