After Before Friday at the beach
After Before Friday at the beach
It wasn’t raining on Tuesday so I took full advantage and did some exploring with the dogs. We went to a couple of beach areas, and I was able to get some photography in.
This giant piece of tree was such a cool shape, and the ocean was behind it with the sun on the water.
This is how I envisioned the photo when I took it, and this is the shot after editing.
It certainly didn’t come out of the camera the way I wanted.
The light was all behind the chunk of wood, and then there was glare from the water. I wanted the glare however, just not that much.
In Lightroom I adjusted for clarity, highlights, shadows, and I used the dehaze button. I then darkened the sky with a graduated filter. After playing around with various adjustments, the photo was what I wanted it to be. To see more After Before Friday posts, head over to Aperture 64.
And just because sometimes you need a cute dog fix, here are the girls at the beach.
Torrey has always loved running around in sand, and this was no exception.
And finally, the winner of the If It Barks dog collar is Taryn from A Tail of Two Cardis.
Have an awesome weekend friends!!
I have GOT to get Lightroom. That is a fantastic edit! I know what you mean about that light on the water. My eye sees the most gorgeous diamond-like glitter on the surface of the lakes at sunset, but often times what comes out of the camera is not what my eye saw. Photoshop is so vast and complicated that I’ve only been able to master a few tricks but the one to adjust the sunlight is something I have no idea how to use, let alone FIND!
Great shots as usual!
You know how much I love the beach so I thoroughly enjoyed this post! LOVE the editing you did on that first photo…it came out awesome! The girls look like they are enjoying themselves…it has probably been awhile since they have been to a beach. Have a great weekend exploring!
Hello, your edited photo is gorgeous. And I love seeing your pretty pups on the beach! Have a happy weekend!
Love the giant piece of tree. The after version is so beautiful. :)
Love the after — but fascinating to see the before.
And of course… the girls.

It is absolutely amazing what a little editing can do! Just lovely!
The beach (ocean) must seem like a new experience to pups who are so used to the desert and forest areas! They look like they’re having a great time exploring. The edited photo is fabulous, I love the detail that came out in it. It’s got a somewhat monochromatic feel that adds to the mood too.
Also, I got the typewriter pic I ordered from your shop, it’s wonderful and will be the centerpiece of my grouping. I’ll put up a photo of it as soon as I have it matted and framed – which could be a while, as I’m somewhat housebound right now with knee issues. But as soon as it’s done, I’ll post it!
The girls are looking happy!!
It’s amazing what editing can do for a photo. It’s also amazing how sometimes what you see through the lens isn’t what comes out in the photo!
Wonderful edits to bring out all the details in the shadows. Love the shots of your pups, so cute! :D
If you can get some decent weather, it is a beautiful area up there.
I like the way you edit the picture.
