Artsy Fartsy Tuesday-It’s all a challenge
If you’ve been hanging out here for a while, you remember Artsy Fartsy Tuesday. When I first started the blog I would highlight a different artist every Tuesday, this was a pretty popular feature on the blog. I stopped doing that, and have done random Artsy Fartsy Tuesday’s here and there over the years. I mentioned the other day my 2017 goals are to learn more about photography, and to make myself shoot something everyday. A fun way to do this is with photo challenges. So I plan to have an Artsy Fartsy Tuesday and show photos from these photo challenges. I started this last year, and then kinda dropped the sharing ball. I did the photo challenge, but got away from posting photos here. New year, new goals!
I did the Dogwood 52 last year, and have decided to do that again.
This image is for week 1. Tell a story using the rule of thirds.
Then I found a couple more. Denise Love who has the website 2 LilOwls is doing a 52 week challenge. I love, love Denise’s stuff. She creates textures that you can use in photoshop to create some pretty cool images. I have quite a few of her textures, and finding her website helped me learn how to use textures in the first place.
Week 1 is an everyday object. Yes, these are my sunglasses.
Last but not least, I found this challenge Monday morning. TheĀ Pet Photography challenge.
Week 1 is backlighting.
All of these are different, so will give me chances to experiment with different ideas. Hopefully, I will stick to all of this. You guys should join in too. We can keep each other on track, and motivated.
Wow – someone is feeling super motivated this year :-) Good luck! I think these are awesome challenges and I look forward to seeing how they progress. You’ve done an awesome job in the past of using challenges to improve your work and scope and I have no doubt that you’ll find a way to do that again this year; at this point though I think it’s less about ‘improving’ and more about trying something a little different.
My challenges this year are writing related, so I shall live vicariously through your photography and maybe even be reminded from time to time to put down the computer and pick up the camera.
Lol..I am feeling motivated, hopefully it will last. Yes, trying something different is really what it’s about. It is harder actually to have a prompt that you are supposed to photograph. Really makes you look harder for that specific thing. And good luck with your writing goals, I’m sure you’ll do great!
OH MY…..I just at this very moment sitting here at my computer, read an article on photography tips and the RULE OF THIRDS was so compelling and it’s the first time I’d ever heard of it. Now, I’m seeing it again on your blog! YES YES YES! Oh the fun, Mary, to learn something new every day either about photography or writing. I think about my profession, being a French language teacher. I love language, and education has been a field I’ve had to learn more about on the job, and under a great amount of pressure. But for me, the quiet space of light and shadow in both writing and photography is a different type of challenge, a quiet life. I am thankful for both profession and hobby, and to you I wish a wonderful new year of rich experiences and JOY!
Anita the rule of thirds goes way, way back in art history. Also known as the golden mean, it is the rule by which all art should be created. Maybe I’ll write a blog post about it, because to learn more about the whole concept is fascinating.
We are hoping to do the pet photography challenge, but we only heard about it yesterday too. Hopefully the sun will come out so we can get some shots to use! We are good with one challenge, so we shall see.
Yeah….we can do that one together and keep each other motivated.
Hello, I always enjoy your photography. I love both shots, especially the doggie photos. I wish you all the best in 2017, Happy New Year!
Thanks Eileen, and Happy New Year.
It’ll be fun to see the images you create for these challenges and the new ideas you come up with.
Ya, I will no doubt surprise even myself.
I will have to look into these. I do the Caturday Art every week. It’s not just for cats and it helps my photoshop skills. You can also use any of the online photo editing apps such as Dreamscope.
Wonderful job on each challenge! These should really help you with your goals this year. I’m still thinking about joining the Pet Photography Challenge; I figure I’ll just join in once I make up my mind! :)
