Artsy Fartsy Tuesday-Photographing Vintage Finds
I was super lucky the other day, when Al’s mom was cleaning out a cupboard of old stuff. She pulled out 3 old cameras, and asked if I would like to have them. Oh hell ya, I want them. One is a Polaroid 360 Land camera, with the telescoping front. They were made in 1969-71, and amazingly enough you can still get film for them. There is also a Polaroid 600, with a pack of film from who knows when, and an old 1950’s Birdseye box style camera. I already had the Argus on the far right of this photo.
The Dogwood 52 prompt for this week is Toys-Storytelling. Since I don’t have kids, and no access to toys, I really had to give this one some thought. I got to thinking…these are my “Toys”, how can I tell a story with them. After trying several different ideas, none of which told any kind of story, I decided to try this shot with my cell phone as part of the storytelling.
It’s a multi generational photo for sure.
This shot is for the 2LilOwls challenge. The prompt was easy this week, “Your Choice.” I had shot this about a week or so ago. I found the old dead roses in the yard, put them in the little old bottle, then put it all together with the small tin type photo, and old parchment paper.
I added a texture layer, and muted the colors a little bit. I call it, Memories.
I love vintage finds for photography, always fun to experiment and see what I can come up with.
How awesome to have those old cameras! The oldest one we have is ten years old. Love that cell in the front with the photo on the screen, great idea!
Good morning Mary! YOU got a treasure trove from Al’s mother! WOW! Amazing to think you can still get film for those oldies but goodies!
I LOVE this prompt. I love any prompt that will get my writing and shutter clicking away!
I hope you’re having fun this summer and continue to see the horses. How lucky you are. We here are enjoying the daily song of the house wren Flo, and her mate Beau. They live in our birdhouse that we can see from our kitchen window. She’s inside and pokes her head out of the hole while Beau stands guard on the ledge of the house. It’s pretty dang cute.
Well my friend, enjoy each moment of your beautiful life.
Hello, the old cameras were a nice find. I love your memory image, great edit. Have a happy day!
Love the old cameras – I had a Polaroid at some point in my 20s, but have no idea whatever happened to it.
And I love the Memories photo, too – especially the tin type photo.
That was SUCH a creative shot with the cameras – I absolutely love it. When we bought our house, the previous owners left a really old box camera (I think late 1800’s). I’m still trying to figure out if it’s worth anything, or what to do with it!
Both tell beautiful stories. Love the second image. :)
that are super “toys” and I love old cameras… I often ponder about the things they saw… and I wish all this old cams had a kind or a “memory card” so we could look at the pictures of the past…
Nice job Mary, I really love the last photo, it’s just so perfect.
