Artsy Fartsy Tuesday-Sheila Wedegis
I first heard about Sheila when all these nose portraits started showing up on my friends blogs. We went to Sheila’s blog, and realized she was on a mission to paint 30 dog noses. What a fun idea!! And yes, she did complete them all. We asked Sheila if she would like to be an Artsy Fartsy featured artist, and she said yes….She would love to.
Here is a little info about Sheila.
For the past 13 years I have specialized in painting Labrador Retrievers. Sharing our home with 4 Labs, now 2, I can say I know their nuances and their spirit and I have captured that in my work.My goal now, after losing my Muse, Sophie to oral cancer, is to paint all that I see and love. “Painting Across America” in a RV is my dream. Since the RV hasn’t manifested itself as yet you will be seeing Florida!!
I have been a professional artist for many years and my landscapes as well as animals, have been in shows throughout the country as well as in Galleries throughout Florida. I was selected this past summer to be one of 12 artists to display their work at the Ormond Memorial Museum, Ormond Beach, Florida for the “Dog Days Of Summer” exhibit. I also work with several Lab rescues in the US and recently traveled to Scotland to help Labrador Retriever Rescue Scotland raise monies for re-homing their Labs.

To “Touch the Soul of Another “so that they know they are not alone is the primary goal of my work. Capturing the soul of the animal in paint and the spirit in the land.
I tend to use a limited palette though every so often I try and branch out a bit. This year I want to experiment with reds!!
Please feel free to contact me with questions, inquiries. I do commissions of all animals and places. sophie@palm-spirit.com

More of Sheila’s work can be seen on her website, and her blog. So be sure to go and visit her.

She does really nice work!
I love it too!
I think she is so incredibly talented. Her talent for how she paints the WATER as well is totally amazing. I so wish I had known about the “nose” project before it was ending. I found out about it when it was just ending :(
We missed the noses until the end too, ): but I’m glad she is artsy fartsy today.
Roxy, I love these paintings. Ms. Wedegis really has captured the spirit of those dogs. So glad you made her your Artsy-Fartsy feature.

Sheila is indeed a good artist. I am probably the only dog around that hasn’t had her nose painted … sigh! But, I loves the pictures of her Labs and especially in the waters. The Labs I know love the water too … I don’t. I swim, but only if I has to:) Thanks for showing us these pictures,Roxy. You are very nice to share her …
