Black Bear Triplets in Grand Teton NP
Black Bear Triplets in Grand Teton NP
When we were here in May, we heard about, and tried to find a black bear that had triplets. My friends had seen them a few times, but we never had any luck. The other day when we decided to drive into the park, we finally got lucky. The funniest part was, we stopped and had breakfast at Signal mountain, and as we were leaving Al said, “Just the perfect time for the bears to be up now.”
And so they were.
Oh my gosh they are cute!
Mama bear had them on the move, so getting good photos was super hard. They are in hyperphagia right now, which means they are eating as much as they can before they hibernate. There are a lot of hawthorn berries in this particular spot, and that’s what they were after.
They are good little cubbers and followed mom all over. She however, got impatient a couple times and gave one of them a whack.
This little one found some tasty flowers.
Cubs on a log. Easier than walking through the thick grass and branches.
One finally sat still for half a second.
I hope we get to see them again. You never know with bears. I really hope they all winter well, and emerge in the spring healthy.
That day had started with an elk herd, which was really nice. That’s a sure sign of fall around here.
These two spike bulls put on a little show for us. Amazing how they can stand on their back legs like this.
It was a good spontaneous trip. Proving that if plan A doesn’t work, plan B just might be better.
They are gorgeous! I saw a black bear not too far from me. It was tagged, because that’s what they do out here. :-(
Oh goodness – those bears are just the cutest things ever! Thanks for sharing them with us!
The two elk are hilarious! They look like they are shaking hooves, and the little one in the middle what a great shot! The little cubs are adorable. Funny how the one is black, but what a great looking bunch.
Wow, the bear cubs are an awesome sighting. They are so darn cute. I love all the photos, including momma bear and the elk. Enjoy your day!
Amazing! The cubs are so beautiful. Your world is such an amazing palette of beauty and colour, sights and joy and life.
And wow! after weeks of trying to make a comment and getting an error message, this morning it works! Yeah! :)
those bulls look like they are dancing and the bears are too cute!
What an experience to be able to watch three bear cubs and be able to capture those lovely images. I bet you can live long on that, even if your world is full of natural wonders. Such as the photos of the elks show.
The bear cubs are different colors? Is that common?
