Our short stay in Anza Borrego

Tales from the Backroad Posted on January 10, 2019 by Mary HoneJanuary 9, 2019

Our short stay in Anza Borrego

Tomorrow we will head to Palm Springs, ending our short stay in Anza Borrego. It’s been fun to see the area, and I really liked the sculptures. The desert here is OK, not as pretty as other places we like to spend time though. I think in the spring it might be better, I’ve always heard the flowers here can be really nice.

We did one hike I wanted to do, but since dogs can’t hike in the state park, we have just been hiking from the RV. The Slot is in the state park, but only about 25 minutes from us, and a short hike to boot. I had read it was fun to see, so we went the other morning.

Like I said, it’s a very short hike but fun to see, and very narrow in spots.

When we got to the other end, we kept going and found some cool rock formations.

Made for some fun photos.

In the past week we have had some interesting sunrises. This was looking west after it had rained most of the night. A nice little rainbow.

The ground here really holds the moisture, or it’s just humid all the time, I’m not sure which. This is ground fog before the sun came up.

I don’t think I would run back to this area though. The boondocking spot is not that great, too many people for our tastes, and the scenery is just marginal. But, now we know.

We are hoping our show in Palm Springs this weekend is good, it’s a first time show for us. Then we travel right back to Phoenix for another show the weekend after that. Busy, busy.

A Day Trip in Yellowstone National Park

Tales from the Backroad Posted on August 1, 2018 by Mary HoneAugust 2, 2018

A Day Trip in Yellowstone National Park

Since we were only 20 minutes from Yellowstone for the past 10 days, we have since moved onto Bozeman, MT. we decided to do A Day Trip in Yellowstone National Park. We got up early Tuesday morning in the hopes of beating the crowds, and getting some good light. Our first stop was the midway geyser basin. This is where the Grand prismatic is, and I was hoping to get some shots of it.

It was a chilly morning, right around 40 degrees, and as we approached the thermal area, we could see the steam coming from all the different vents. Pretty interesting sight. People always think the Native Americans must have been confused by this area, because they assume they didn’t understand. I think it was just the opposite. I think the white explorers found this area, and were scared to death because they couldn’t comprehend what was happening.

A Day Trip in Yellowstone National Park

We stopped in the fountain paint pot area first. There are several hot pools here, and small geysers. Since it was cold it was really steamy, which was a fun way to see it.

Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, MT

Tales from the Backroad Posted on July 29, 2018 by Mary HoneJuly 29, 2018

Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, MT

We are currently boondocking about 15 minutes from West Yellowstone. We wanted to stay here again, so we could visit the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, MT.

We went to the Grizzly and Wolf center a couple years ago, and really enjoyed it. Obviously I would rather see animals in their natural habitat, but I also understand the role places like this have in the world. Educating the public on bear activity, bear safety, and the lives they lead is top priority at the center. The bears, and wolves who live at the discovery center, are there for various reasons. The bears were either orphaned because their mom got in trouble, or they are bears that repeatedly got in trouble themselves. They would no doubt have been put down, if places like this didn’t take them in.
