Color accent on Black and White
Color accent on Black and White After – Before Friday
My photo for today’s ABFriday is one I took the other day. I stopped with the dogs in the shade while we were out walking so they could chill, and I could get some flower photos. These yellow flowers were right in from of Torrey, so I kneeled way down on the ground to get her behind the small flowers.
I like the composition of the photo, the slight tilt, the fuzzy dogs in the back ground. I wanted the flowers to be the focus. So to achieve that, the photo needed some help.
I did all the work in Lightroom. First, I cropped the photo down to hide Torrey’s shoes. The shoes are awesome, but not part of the picture here. In the develop module, I then took the saturation down for all the colors except yellow. I needed to hide the bright pink of her harness, which is why I went to black and white. This left some color in the back ground, which I decided was actually quite nice. I lightened the photo in levels, then brought the clarity and vibrancy up a little. I used the adjustment brush to lighten the flowers in the foreground by simply increasing the exposure.
And that’s it. To see what other great things are happening for ABFriday, go to this link.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Nice one. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
I love the single flower! Cute shots of Torrey! Have a happy Friday!
Oh my….well, your photography is already stunning, but your navigation of Light Room is impressive, Mary! That lone flower says SPRING! Lovely composition my friend! Anita
the flower is like a statement, that’s a wonderful idea :o)
easy rider
Fabulous work, Mary. The picture is so dramatic and I agree that the light in the background adds something. Love the tilt of Torrey’s head. I was considering getting Lightroom but I was still on the fence. You’re pushing me much closer to taking the plunge! Have a wonderful weekend.
really nicely done!
Good job!…:)JP
I saw this in Triberr and Ooohed and Aaaahed over it. It is gorgeous Mary.
the photo is wonderful As to how you made it, this is what I understood, “lightroom…blah, blah, blah….boots…..yadda yadda yadda, yellow…And that’s it. :-)
LOL someday you will need to give me lessons in this. :-)
Thanks so much for that tip! I always wondered how that was done…hopefully I will remember it!
Beautiful job! Love Dolly
Pretty!
I am still learning lightroom. Thanks for explaining exactly what you did. I’ll try something like that! Very pretty end result.
It sounds like you have a terrific lab work.
Such a beautiful photo — and puppy!
I really like reading how you achieve the effects you want. Thanks, Mary!
Great processing to an already great shot. The flower really stands out and the dog puts it into perspective.
Beautiful job. I need to learn more about using photo software (and purchase some), other than just the basics. It’s definitely on my to do list!
It is a beautiful photo, very unusual too!
Nicely done, Mary! I love the balance of the yellow flower with the subtle highlights in the background. And what a beautiful pup you have there :) Treasured photo.
Nicely done, Lightroom is awesome, I use it all the time. I found the Nik plugins, especially Silver EFEX Pro, to be very handy at selective colorization.
Beautiful!
You really brought focus to those gentle flowers, great job. And the dog adds such a perspective, the comoposition of the image is great.
