From Clicking to Creating – Week 6 2018
Of the two photo challenges this week, I liked the 2 Lil Owls prompt the best, morning. Mornings here in the desert can be spectacular, with colorful sunrises, and pastel beauty all around. It’s impossible to get all the beauty in one shot, so I like to make a panorama.
This particular panorama is 4 shots.
The first step in creating a panorama is of course getting the images. When I am taking photos that I know I want to merge, I pay close attention of were the edge of the photo is when I’m taking them. For these, I look at the landscape and make sure that my next shot starts, were the previous one ends. Having specific landmarks helps with this. I rarely shoot with a tripod, but if you’re unsure if you can keep the alignment steady, a tripod would help. Take your 3, or 4 consecutive shots and import into lightroom. Photoshop also will make a panorama, but lightroom now has this ability and it’s much easier.
If you need to edit the photos, make sure they all have the same adjustments. These photos are right out of the camera, so I didn’t have to worry about that. I did click the “Enable profile corrections” simply because if the image is distorted this will flatten it out.
In develop mode, Click>shift to select the photos you want to merge. Then go to the top menu bar and click “Photo”. A drop down menu will appear, and one of the options is “Photo merge” with a fly out menu menu that says “HDR” and “Panorama”.
Click Panorama and this box will pop up. It will take lightroom a minute to think about the merge. If it can’t find enough common edges, it won’t make the panorama. Once the panorama is made, and you’re happy with it, click the merge button.
And that’s it. Super easy.
The Dogwood 52 this week was not very easy. I had to look up what Alternating Rhythm even meant. I have had this prompt in my head for a couple weeks, looking for something that would work. I ended up taking some photos of the palm trees at the dog park, with the sun coming through the palm fronds.
Not the most inspiring, but it fits for the week. This photo of ripply sand was my first idea, but I wasn’t super excited about it.
Some weeks are just better than others. What have you guys created this week?
It’s funny how some challenges sound so simple and are actually so hard. We like the palm tree photo. It is bright and cheery and makes one wonder what it is exactly.

I love your panorama. I didn’t know that LR could do it! I use PS. I’ll try your new way – it looks easier! I’m still back on LR 6, and I’m not sure if it does it. We have a limited bandwidth internet connection so I’m not eager to use the version of LR that is online.
I am still struggling with the Dogwood one. I like both of yours a lot – the palm one is my fave of the two. I got a photo of windblown snow that looks a lot like your sand one. Like you felt about yours, however, I’m not super excited about mine. I’m hoping that a new idea will strike me (soon)!
