Happy Earth Day
Happy Earth Day
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pretty fond of the Earth and wishing her a Happy Earth Day seems even more poignant this year. With the rocky politics, and the complete disregard for the environment coming out of Washington, this years Earth Day is even more important.
I have always loved camping, and hiking, and just getting out in nature. But living in the RV, and staying mostly on public land has brought me a new closeness, and appreciation for the natural world. We need nature! Everyone needs the opportunity to get away from the soul sucking cities and breath fresh air, and listen to absolutely nothing.
John Muir wrote – Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.
“Nature is not something that can be seen with the eye alone, it lies also within the soul, in pictures seen by the inner eye…”
~Edvard Munch
And Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote as part of a poem, “The Earth laughs in Flowers.” I completely agree with this. You can’t look at a hillside covered with colors, and not see the joy.
The earth proves to us everyday how resilient, yet fragile she is.
My biggest wish for the Earth, and for all of us, is that people will treat her with the respect she deserves, so that future generations can enjoy all the beauty that is out there.
I feel honored that my birthday is tomorrow, followed by the day we celebrate our beautiful home. Spring, new beginnings, my beginnings and the hope that we can bring awareness is invigorating. But frustration always manages to play a role in the ongoing effort to find ways to be more responsible. You are so right; such a disregard coming from the top is infuriating. Lovely dedication today, Mary!
We have to care for the planet as we only have one and it is in need of some TLC.
Hello, great post for Earth Day. I agree whole-heartly about taking care of our Earth. Our government now is all about greed. So sad.
Your photos are all beautiful, I love the field of flowers. Great quotes too! Happy weekend to you!
These images are breathtaking! Happy Earth Day and Happy travel, Mary! :)
Your photos are beautiful Mary.
Wonderful quotes and yes, respect is a must, as it should be for all life.
I love that you honor/celebrate the Earth EVERY DAY, not just on Earth Day!
Your photos show so eloquently why we need to take care of Earth. They are a lovely tribute to the day.
We share your wish. Your photos illustrate all that we need to preserve. I worry every day now about our earth’s future not being respected. The outdoors, and the beautiful earth, are what feeds my soul. (I honestly can’t comprehend how people live in cities).
Happy Earth Day, Mary. Beautiful thoughts and photos.
All gorgeous photos, but that last one really strikes me. It’s incredible.
Beautifully put, both in words and in pictures.
Although I know nature shows her face everywhere, living in the less-protected environment of the boat helps me notice more. I never miss a sunrise or sunset. I notice the phases of the moon. And I’m always on the look out for nearby animals.
There’s no reason I couldn’t do the same thing living in a house. But for some reason, I just didn’t.
There’s something to be said for being close to nature and having it affect you more.
Amen sister. And not just the earth, for the creatures who share her with us as well.
