It’s a Desert Oasis
It’s a Desert Oasis
I mentioned in my last post that I had no idea how pretty this area is. We said this year we were going to visit new places, and this has been a great new place to see. It’s a desert oasis with birds, the wild horses, and it’s green as can be.
We have done some hiking and exploring along the river, and I am amazed at the number of herons, egrets, and even osprey that are here.
The other morning we hiked along the river and saw probably half a dozen egrets, and herons both. At one point there were 2 egrets, and a heron standing close to each other on the shore of the river. The herons usually fly pretty fast after seeing people though.
This heron from a few evenings ago was pretty content on his high perch though. Getting this shot with him by a saguaro was fun, and unusual.
The egrets are so fun to watch fish. This guy was creeping along the river looking for breakfast.
This guy liked his high tree perch, and was there for quite some time.
Until another egret came along, and off they went.
When we got here, I put my hummingbird feeder out, and within 30 minutes we had this male Anna’s hummer. You know I love the hummers.
The bitter brush are blooming everywhere too, and that brings butterflies.
We’re going to be here another week, so I hopefully will have more photos of the area to share. We have a hike or two planned, plus we are always on the lookout for wildlife. I am also hoping for some gorgeous sunset stuff against this beautiful craggy landscape.
I hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas, or whatever you may celebrate. I’m so glad to have you all here, and a part of this crazy adventure we share called, Life.
Good morning dear Mary! Again, your view of nature pulls me into the possibilities that wait for me as a buddy photoartist. Thank you for the years of inspiration!
What a fun new area to photograph. One would never imagine this in a desert!
I was so amazed when I saw your photo of the heron on Facebook – I had no idea birds like that lived in the desert too. Very cool!
