It’s in the stars
It’s in the stars
One of my very favorite things about this traveling life, is meeting new, and awesome people.
This past week was a great week for that. First, we got to hang out with Nina and Paul from WheelingIt. I have followed Nina’s blog for probably a year, and we always seem to be in kinda the same areas. Mostly in the winter when we are in Arizona. Last week they rolled into the area, and we had a great time getting to know them. (It’s always fun to meet what Al calls my invisible friends) Nina is a wonderful photographer, so she was very interested in getting some great shots while they were here.
Which leads me to the other great people we met. In the mornings I am usually on the hunt for the moose. I am rarely the only photographer out looking for them. One morning last week we met, and started talking to a couple who are spending time here, and photographing all the great things. We got talking about star photography with my other photographer friend Mike, who lives here. We decided to meet that night and shoot the milky way at the Moulton barns. I have tried unsuccessfully to shoot the stars, so I was excited about going with some people who knew how to do it. It was Nina and Paul’s last night in the area, and she was excited about shooting the stars too.
It was fun hanging out with some fellow photographers, and learning some new techniques.
The night sky here is fabulous, as you can imagine. No ambient light at all, and the milky way is just awesome. The barns are lit up with a flashlight for part of the exposure.
I met my new photographer friends at the barns on a second night, and shot this one. There was enough light behind the Tetons to get the silhouette.
I believe everyone comes into our lives for a reason. And meeting awesome, like minded people is always a great bonus.

Oh my word…you have the best subjects to photograph. I’m over here taking photos of houses and flowers, and you’re capturing the light of the night. And dogs. GORGEOUS!
LOL. Your flower and house photos are gorgeous!
Spectacular Photos Mary!! You and your “Invisible Friends” sure did an awesome job with these!! I absolutely love meeting new people on the road…and have met some very interesting people too!
I will have to see if I can find some fun photos for the contest.
Happy Monday!
You always have fun photos of your girls on Instagram, enter for sure!
the barn looks like a magic castle, it would make a wonderful illustration for a howl-o-ween story :o)
Sounds like you’re having an awesome time and the pictures are great!
you did it! you did it!!! These photos are gloriously exquisite!!
When I was in Truro (on Cape Cod) last June, I stayed at my cousin’s home about a 1/2 mile away from the beach. It is more of a rural area and when we went out at night it was breathtaking how I could see more stars than I ever have in my life. You are blessed to see that wonder every night!
These photos are just fabulous!
I love being able to see the stars. If I can’t, I know we are too close to town.
Watching the stars and the Milky Way gives us a little bit of perspective! Awesome photos!
It does give perspective, makes me feel pretty small. And thanks.
Wow, your starry night skies are beautiful. Well done! Have a happy day and new week ahead!
Thank you, you too.
Magic! I would love to know how to shoot the stars!
It’s tricky. But doable with the right help.
We meet each other for a certain reason.
That’s why I’m here.
Stunning shots! Can’t imaging being there, I know I’d be numbed.. .
It is breathtaking for sure.
Those are some amazing night photos. How fun to share the experience with like minded folks.
Finding “my peeps” has been so much fun.
I know I say this all the time, but those photos are so amazing!! We have too much city light here to see all those stars.
That’s sad. I love seeing the stars at night.
OMG Mary, your photography skills have developed (no pun intended!!) beyond all proportion! WOW!! Those shots – especially the house and barn photos – took my breath away. I actually had to take my computer inside to show DD and DH. Just amazing.
Thanks so much. I feel like I am learning and growing all the time.
oh your photos turned out beautifully!! I’m so glad we met, and so glad I got to tag along that night too. We were definitely meant to meet.
Nina
I’m hooked on this star stuff now. And I’m really glad you came here so we could meet.
Wow, beautiful shots! We so rarely get to see the Milky Way, living in the Big City, like we do. Although we do see a decent amount of stars, since we are near the ocean and there’s no light coming from there! lol about “invisible friends” – I’ve got lots of those too! :)
OK, I love it! Your “invisible friends”! I have a lot of them as well! Just because you haven’t met, doesn’t mean you aren’t friends! That’s probably the best thing the internet ever did, making friends around the world!
I love the stars!!!!!!
Your star photos are simply spectacular! I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for some good fall photo ops with the dogs…I just hope falls gets here soon enough!
