Making something old, even older
Making something old, even older
I haven’t done an After-Before Friday post in way too long. So this week, I’m jumping in for sure.
I took this truck photo at Rhyolite. I love old rusty trucks anyway, and this one had the cool building in the background, so bonus points there.
This is the photo after I did my editing.
And this is the before.
The first thing I can say is shooting in the bright afternoon, in the bright desert, really washes out a photo. So the first thing I did was fix that, to the extreme in Lightroom. I really wanted to punch up the photo so I used a preset I have called Punchy HDR. That gave me this photo, and honestly I could have stopped right there.
But while I was photographing the truck, I took a closeup of the rusty door. So I took that photo and layered it over this one to get the final result. It just made it that much more old and gnarly looking. I am loving experimenting with layers and textures. It’s a whole new look and feel.
What do you think?

I love it… it looks older, yes, and edited it looks as if it can tell stories :o)we had such an old truck in our neighborhood and it was the bestest place for us kids… in our imagination we drove around the world in that ole ride and we never noticed the dirty seats and the rusty exterieur… for us it was like a rolls royce LOL
Love the rusty looking of the after. Well done! :)
It would be great to know the story that the old truck could tell. I love your edits.
It’s pretty cool. It is obviously a photograph, but it also has a fun cartoon feel to it.
It’s funny you should say that you were happy with the first edit you did because I thought the same thing. They’re both great and each has a definite appeal.
Love the effect!! Super cool!
