Oatman, Arizona Burros
Oatman, Arizona Burros
Funny how things work out. When I posted photos of the wild burros a little while ago, someone asked me if we had been to Oatman. We hadn’t, so I did a google search and decided we needed to go.
We left Quartzsite on Monday, to start working our way back north. It was getting hot, and Al is still having weird stuff going on. So we decided it was time to go. We spent Monday in Mohave Valley at an RV park, so we could drive up to Oatman.
Oatman is an old gold mining town, that is now just a small tourist place. The fun part is the burro’s that roam around town. They are essentially wild, but are so use to people that they are very tame.
Such a funny face.
The little main street is cool, because there are old wood sidewalks and several of the old original buildings.
Talking with the local jackasses’.
This old diner trailer was at the end of the town, boy I would sure love to have this. What a fun food truck this would make.
We were done in town, and still had some daylight left. I had read that the canyon going out of town was beautiful, so we headed that way. Holy cow, I’m so glad we did. Not only was it a pretty canyon, but there were poppies blooming everywhere. We stopped at a spot that was just thick with them, and took a bazillion photos.
This was a dream come true for me. I have wanted so badly to find a spot were the poppies are thick like this.
Here and there, we would find a single lupine.
It was a great spot, and I’m glad we visited.
Oh wow! Those burros make me just want to cuddle them.
Love the “Be a lupine in a sea of poppies.” They are stunning btw.
PS — I love how you and Al live every moment in awe, beauty and reverence.
Hope he’s doing better in a cooler clime.

What a fun place to visit – and lovely!
Hello, I just love the burros. They are so cute! The poppies are just gorgeous, what a beautiful sight! Enjoy your day!
You can forget the wild horses and give us wild burro photos forever! We love them! So adorable and what a cool place to visit too!
Such beautiful photos! Those burros have the cutest faces and the poppies are beautiful! I think the only place I’ve ever seen them thick like that is in the movie the Wizard of Oz!
Aw, the burros are just too cute! And the poppies and single lupine are simply gorgeous! Like Beth said, the only place I’ve ever seen so many poppies was in “The Wizard of Oz”! Oatman looks like a cool place to visit! In more ways than one. ? Hopefully, the cooler weather up north will help Al to recover completely.
Burros are so cute :) Wow, widely spread poppies!
They are so cute!
Love your pics of the burros. You must have really gotten your clothes dirty taking those shots (BTW, I took you advice to get lower when shooting and got a great shot of some sailboat rigging while lying in bird poop).
We saw the feral horses on Cumberland Island in Georgia recently. Their coats were so long and thick they almost looked like burros themselves.
Oatman looks like quite a place, not the least with the wild or sort of wild burros. Great pictures of “life” in the old town.
We’ve been to Oatman quit a few times over the years but have never seen poppies in Sitgreaves Pass. Because of you, I plan on taking a trip tomorrow. It’s about a 2 hour drive from our home in North Las Vegas. I just wanted to add that, the burros are not tame, but are pretty used to people and will come right up to you for something to eat. But they do kick if you come up behind them. Also, we were warned not to get boxed in on the sidewalk if you have food because they will keep advancing on you. Otherwise, yes, they are cute! :)
We were there on the 13th, so the flowers should still be good. They weren’t too far out of town, evening was the best light for sure. Ya, the burros seemed like they could still be “wild”, I wouldn’t want to get behind one or in their way.
OH MARY, I had a late school night last night, making me sleep too late this morning, not allowing for my blog hop routine. I MISSED THIS ONE! I WANT A BURRO!!!!!!!!!!!!! The face of the one laying down….holy smokes, they are so cute. Equines are just too precious for words. YOU HAD FUN!
What a find! The burros are adorable and the poppies are breathtaking. Hope Al gets feeling back to normal soon.
Burros are SO cute. Your photos of them capture their personalities wonderfully!
And those poppies! I’ve never seen anything like it. Aren’t you glad that you didn’t miss that. Is this part of the “super bloom” that I’ve been reading about?
I sure hope that Al is feeling better. I’m thinking of you.
