People, and how to deal with them
People, and how to deal with them
No, I don’t suddenly have fabulous insight into how to deal with people. But I did find some magazines from the 1950’s that may shed light on this.
I mentioned the other day that we went to some antique shops in Pendleton, Oregon. I approach antiquing like my photography, give me something different. So when I saw these, I had to have them. There were actually about 15 of these, but I chose 5 that I liked the best. They are 8 x 10 only have 8 pages, and were published bi-weekly.
But oh the wise advice of the 50’s. I am going to share one magazine with you, and give you some excerpts for the next 5 weeks.
These cracked me up, but at the same time, I thought…..if people still had these values and ideals, we wouldn’t be in the mess we are in as a society.
Along with advice on how to deal with people, there is a photo section in each one. I only hope there are no babies in those carriages. LOL
There is an article on making your job important, instead of the other way around. And also another on using proper grammar to make an impression. Both valuable, and still applicable today.
Then we have the Wit and Wisdom section.
The toughest problems some kids face is that of learning good manners without seeing any.
The man who remembers what he was taught at his mothers knee, was probably bent over it at the time.
No man goes before his time, unless the boss has left early.
I hope you enjoyed this little walk into another era. I will share some more next week.
HAHAHAHAHAHAH! I love those last quotes. How very true, how very, very true to this day!
Totally still true today!! Don’t you just love old magazines??
I know my mom loves finding clips from those old advice magazines. Some of it is really good, and some makes for good laughter these days!
Love it — what is fascinating is that the article is written in the masculine — and it’s all about dealing with emotions and feelings and confidence — something we would not write about from the masculine pov today! Fascinating!
Good morning, great finds! And the quotes are wonderful. Thanks for sharing, enjoy your day!
These are great. I go to antique auctions all the time – and I work at a few too – and I’ve bought magazines dating back well into the 19th century because they were so interesting. Even the ads were fascinating or amusing, especially how they justified corsets! They really give a good look into various eras.
Now THAT was a fun read! I’m looking forward to your next instalment. ;)
OMG, the cover of that magazine is awesome! It’s like those e-card thingies you see on Facebook now. (Except that they’re satirical….) And LOL about the baby carriages! What a great find!
Love it! What a great find!
Those are SO fun! And the quotes at the end are hilarious!
We were just talking about this at the gym today!!! All I can say is, “If only…”:)JP
Maybe we need to republish these. It seems to me there are a lot of people who need help with their people skills. :-)
