Al’s shop was built in 1962 by his Grandfather, and has been passed down to his dad, and then to him. Pretty much Al grew up in the shop. He started sweeping floors when he was 2, and began creating his own projects as soon as he could reach the equipment. As you can imagine there a lot of memories in the building, and selling the shop has been a process for him.

A couple weeks ago he started using vintage finds to create an awesome new piece, something we can take with us when we sell, and move the shop.

The Daily Post photo prompt this week is Jubilant.

Today we leave for Prescott, Az. for our first art show of the summer. Al is showing his sculptures at the Phippen Museum Western art show in the town square of Prescott. I looooove Prescott, and I am thrilled to be on the road, even if it’s just till next week. We will stop in St. George for 2 nights to spend time with our wonderful friends, and I am really looking forward to that.

Al is happy because he did these two wonderful paintings to take to the show. He wasn’t very happy with his painting last year, but he is quite thrilled with the way these turned out. And rightfully so, I would say.

This one is 36″ x 36″.

Mixed Media Photography Art

I’ve kinda hinted at the new art pieces we are doing, and now that I have some done it’s time to show you the Mixed Media Photography Art. I may have made up that name, but I don’t know what else to call it.

It all started when Al decided we were going to try encaustic wax techniques to compliment my photos. We go to art shows and all the photographers display their photos the same way. Canvas prints, metal prints, framed photos. So in our ever searching quest for the new and different, this seemed like like a good idea. Seemed like a good idea. It became quickly apparent that encaustic wax is a huge pain in the butt. Trying to create color like we thought we could was a nightmare. So we reverted to plan B and made mixed media collage work, then applied a clear coat of wax over the top of everything.

When we were in Rapid City we went back to an antique store we had visited the last time we were there. This store is amazing. Great prices, huge variety, and perfect for collecting “stuff” for this idea.
