Narrow Slot Canyons

I had to pull out the way back machine to get photos for this weeks Daily Post prompt of Narrow. Spaces are wide open here, so not much to shoot that would fit narrow.

When I saw the photo prompt, I immediately thought of narrow slot canyons. When we still had the house, and I still had a regular job, we would spend long weekends in the red rock deserts of Utah. We explored, and hiked so many beautiful places. We would go to a different corner each time we went camping. One of my favorites was Buckskin Gulch. Down by the Grand Staircase-Escalante, this is the longest slot canyon in the world. 12 miles long. We didn’t hike the whole way, but we went pretty far and it was amazing. This photo was taken May of 2011. Torrey was 6 months old.

The other day my youngest came and picked up me and the dogs and we went hiking. I knew a hike up the nearby canyon that is always pretty, so we headed there. We followed the stream and saw a couple of really beautiful small waterfalls running into it.

Short hikes around Prescott, Arizona

I knew there was some hiking in Prescott from past visits here, but until I got a trail map, I had no idea how much. There is so much to hike or bike here, it’s fantastic. This trail map shows all the local trails, and gives a great description of them all. While Al was at the art show this weekend, I took the dogs and did some hiking and exploring. It seemed a bit unfair for him, but there was no point us both being at the show. And we were camped just far enough away that going back and forth to take care of doggies was too much.

Saturday I picked a trail called Constellation trails. It was in the granite dells and only a few miles away. The weather over the weekend was perfect for hiking, mid 70’s, breezy, and sunny.
