I hope you guys have enjoyed Wild Horse Week. I have had fun showing you the photos, and telling you some of the stories.
So what do I do with all these photos, other than show them to you? I have been processing like crazy for one thing. We are in work mode right now, getting geared up for winter art shows. We have some really cool art pieces in the works, many of them from horse photos.
When you think of wild horses, fighting stallions is the first thing that comes to mind. I know when I first saw stallions fighting, it was thrilling. Such raw, wild, untamed power.
First, there is a lot of posturing. They will sometimes stand with their heads down, right next to each other.
Yesterday I showed you the whole herd running to the watering hole in the evening. It was almost like they had some internal clock that said it was time to go to water. And “The Man”, remember the lead stallion, led them there. They seem to go to water once, maybe twice a day. Morning and evening.
After they all ran past us, we drove to the watering hole to watch them. They are always excited, and very active then. Rather than watch them actually in the water, I positioned myself where they were all coming out. They take turns getting into the water, the hierarchy thing again, then they all file out the other side. It’s chaotic, and organized all at the same time.
By this time of the evening, it was getting seriously duskish. Not good lighting for photos, but I wanted to get shots of them rolling in the dirt after they had got wet.
