Nice Day for a Hike

Tales from the Backroad Posted on June 6, 2017 by Mary HoneJune 5, 2017

Nice Day for a Hike

It’s been pretty hot lately, so we decided that Sunday would be a good day to head for the mountains. It was a nice day for a hike with the dogs, and to get out in the wilds for a little bit.

Big Springs is a hike we have done a couple times, and I hiked this with my boys when they were younger. It’s a nice trail, and always so very green. Utah got a lot of snow in the mountains this year, and it shows.

Torrey was definitely glad to be out.

Backcountry Dogs, Deserve Merrick Backcountry Food and Treats

Backcountry Dogs, Deserve Merrick Backcountry Food and Treats

Living full time in our RV, we are inherently very outdoorsy. We were before moving into the RV, but now we are more than ever. We definitely prefer the back road way of life, to being in town any day.

Torrey and Roxy absolutely love this life. They get to walk or hike in the backcountry almost everyday. All those new places, all those new smells. Keeping them fit and healthy is a huge priority for me. Not only is it sometimes hard to find a vet, but of course I want to avoid the vet if we can. Feeding them healthy food and treats is a great start for healthy dogs.

Torrey has been eating Merrick dog food for quite some time. I’m pretty picky about what my dogs eat and I feel good about the quality, and the ingredients in Merrick.

Merrick’s Backcountry is a wonderful combination of high quality, high protein kibble and freeze dried raw pieces.

I love that it’s grain free, but Torrey just cares that it’s tasty. Merrick also has just the freeze dried raw pieces. These can be added to kibble, or moistened and served as a wet food. This is a great option for raw feeders, or people like us with limited space for storing things.

On Your Mark, Get Set….GO

On Your Mark, Get Set….GO

Both dogs are just thrilled to be back in the desert. Roxy feels better in the warmth, and both dogs are happy about more walking, and freedom.

Last year when we got here, Torrey couldn’t run because of the partial tear in her ACL. She couldn’t go on long walks either. This year, she is making up for that.

Torrey and I went on a hike yesterday to the sand dunes, about a mile and half from where we camp. She loves running in the sand anyway, and it was a good time to practice her Sit, Stay too. I had her sit, then I would walk away, and call her to me.

Oh your mark, get set….

GO!
