Those gnarly old Saguaro
I’ve mentioned here more than once how I love the saguaro cactus. And I really like the gnarly old saguaro, the ones that look like they have been through years of living in the desert. Which of course they have. It takes 75-100 years for a saguaro to grow their first arm. Nobody really knows how fast they grow after that.
When the saguaro die it takes a while for all the bones to appear. But I love to find them like that.
This guy has a lot of arms, he looks pretty dang old to me.
And how about an ocotillo at sunset. I like them a lot too.
I have added a couple of the saguaro cactus in this post to my online store in the Nobody Ever Looks Up gallery.
Have an awesome Monday friends!!
How fascinating! I love the photos — and the story they tell and you share of their life and death.
The many armed one is truly an inspiring being.
my beloved madagascar palm looked the same before it crashed and went to the veggie-ranch in heaven :o)
Hello, I do love the saguaro. Wonderful captures and a beautiful sunset. Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!
Unlike any other plants, it’s so fascinating. Thank you for the beautiful post, Mary! :)
Gorgeous shots – they look almost like people!
Never knew they had “bones”…great pix, Mary!…:)JP
I didn’t know any of that…how fascinating! With wonderful photos to illustrate the facts as well!
We think some of the really old ones are actually creepy looking.
Those are gorgeous!
Beautiful images. In particular I like the first one. The use of texture and faded colours makes it stand out.:-)
Is it just me or do they look creepy in the dark?
I had no idea it took that long to grow an arm!!
