We begin our trip down the Oregon coast
We begin our trip down the Oregon coast
We left Vashon Saturday morning, and headed for Lacey, Wa. There is a Costco there, and Shipwreck beads. Shipwreck beads was a dream to visit. I have ordered so much stuff from them online and have always wanted to go to the store. It was awesome! That’s all I can say about that.
We spent that first night in Longview, Wa. at the Walmart. Our most un-favorite place to spend the night is a Walmart parking lot, but it was all there was and it was getting dark.
We left early Sunday morning and headed for Astoria, Oregon. Once we got there, I told Al we had to drive on the bridge that goes over the Columbia river. That meant heading north, but it was worth it.
We drove up the road a few miles, then turned around and headed south. Soon we were at the coast.
The beauty here is unreal. I can not even tell you how much I have missed the ocean. Seeing, and hearing the ocean again was such a wonderful thing for me. We pulled into a state park just past Newport, Oregon. It’s called South Beach and we are able to easily walk to the beach from our campsite. We stayed on the beach to watch the sunset last night.
This was Torrey’s first day of being able to walk anywhere. She was chomping at the bit to go, but was pretty sad she couldn’t just run on the beach. I feel so bad for her.
We will probably stay here tonight too, then onward on the southerly route.
I love the Oregon coast! It’s one of my favorite places to visit and drive through! I really hope we can make it to the beach this year!
Doesn’t the ocean just bring you alive? That fantastic shot of the bridge going toward the coast, OH MARY….this scene (or one similar) has been played out so many times in my dreams. For years I’ve been dreaming the water, but we went back to Carmel last June, my dreams of oceans stopped. I think being a California girl living now in the Midwest caused a longing in my heart for such a vast body of water.
The dogs look SO HAPPY! Who doesn’t like the beach? Man and beast need to feel that energy…enjoy yourselves, and I look forward to more gorgeous beauty!
My love of the ocean began when I lived in California. It’s calming, energizing, and just plain wonderful.
The ocean does wonders for me as well, Mary. Good to know that Torey is on the mend!…:)JP
She seems to be doing pretty good. Just need to keep it that way.
I loved the Oregon beaches, Cute shots of your sweet dogs. Enjoy Oregon. Happy Monday, have a great week!
I love the photo of the bridge and the road, that’s a great angle you used. And I love Roxy, she looks like a mini-wolf, what a beautiful pup :o)
So many people say she looks like a mini wolf, she does too. The bridge was quite awesome.
Glad your heart is able to feel lighter now :-)
So much lighter!
Oh my, the beach there is gorgeous!!!! Your photos are fantastic. The view going down that bridge is exciting! Enjoy your new spot!
The beach is great here, I could stay here for a week but I don’t think we can. And thanks!
I love bridges and your shot is great… lighting, color, angle are spot on. Enjoy the rest of your travels south.
The bridge was awesome. I’m so glad we went that way, twice. Lol
Such beautiful shots.
I’ve really wanted to take pictures of the bay but can’t think of how i’d ever capture it. But you did such a great job.
Glad to hear that you’re not in such a hurry to get out of dodge that you’re missing out on some amazing sights. Good travels.
The desert is calling, but we have always wanted to do this trip. And it is amazing.
Wow, these are amazing captures of the coast, Mary. Hope Torrey gets better soon.
Those are some mighty fine sunset shots! Glad to see you actually had some SUN too! What a bonus!
Can I just say how wonderful it was to watch a sunset, see the horizon, and just enjoy?
Stunning! We can feel how excited you are to be out on the road, getting away from your two months of torture!
So beautiful Mary. I’m a fan of the beach myself (but not to lie out during the day, for walking at dawn and dusk). Great photos of the sunset.
The hardest part of Sampson’s ACL for me was keeping the poor guy on leash. You have my sympathies and I hope Torrey is feeling better very soon!
Astoria is such a fun city, love spending time there…The Oregon coast is such a gorgeous part of the world, your photos are so amazing.
Fabulous photos and what a magnificent sunset! I can see Roxy was having a great time experiencing the sandy beach, but poor Torrey! I feel her pain. That bridge is incredible – reminds me of a roller coaster. :)
Holy crap! I have a phobia of bridges and that one really freaked me out…LOL. I’d be doing everything I could to avoid it, not go out of my way to get to it.
The ocean photos are breathtaking, and it’s good to see the girls on the beach. We hope Torrey can be back to normal activity soon…I know how tough that is!
Oh wow! What a stunning place! The beach pictures are breathtaking!
Glad to hear Torrey is getting better! The pictures are beautiful! When I visited Oregon I didn’t get to see the coast but drove to Pendleton along the Columbia River and it was one of the prettiest sights I have seen.
I love to travel, and my favorite place in the world is the beach. Your pictures are so full of life. Safe travels to y’all!
