When you can’t get out and shoot…Edit!
When you can’t get out and shoot…Edit!
I really, really like photography. Getting behind the camera and immersing myself in what’s before me is my therapy. I lose my mind, in a good way, and live in the moment.
When we are here in Utah those moments are hard to come by, unless we go visit the horses. So, when I can’t get out and shoot, I will immerse myself in editing instead. I am finding a whole new “zen” in the editing process. I have a bunch of textures, elements, virtual papers, and several programs, with Photoshop being my “go to” editor.
2 weeks ago one of the photo challenges was Circles. I grabbed this old camera of mine with the idea that the lenses are circles. I then edited it with this texture that has a circle of a camera lens on it, then added more circles with Photoshop brushes.
This weeks Dogwood 52 challenge is Artistic-Purple. I found these purple flowers on a walk the other day, there was one small spot were these wild flowers were growing. Wanting to keep with the “artistic” part of the prompt I then added this purple texture in Photoshop.
The prompt for the 2LilOwls challenge this week is Food. Raspberries and cream. Edited in Lightroom to bring out the color, and texture of the berries.
My oldest son is getting married. Yeah for them! I’m excited for the both of them. They had someone do some engagement pictures, and brought the files to me. I created this out of one of my favorite shots.
This shot of the stallions fighting was cropped, and I brought the contrast up in Lightroom. Sometimes, keeping it simple is the best.
A very handsome gray dapple stallion. I wanted to make these black and white, to show him off even more. All of my photos start out in LR, then I can open them in PS if I want, or open them in one of the Nik Efex editors. These two were edited in Silver Efex. It’s excellent for black and white, and there are many variations to use.
Photo editing has become such an art form, in and of itself. I have a long way to go in comparison to some images I see, but I know more now than I did a year ago when I first became interested in this type of editing. I try to learn a new skill, or technique regularly. I like the art form, and I don’t have to be able to draw. Lol
Oh Mary….
Well first of all, I too love the quiet moments of editing. For both photography and poetry, editing for me is where the real magic happens. You can tweak and change and dream. Now for these stallions….perfect moments of power and grace. I so love your horse photos!
Congratulations to your son. Those raspberries made us hungry! Mom loves taking photos as it takes her mind away to another destination, but editing is not really her thing. She needs to take a class or something.
Wow! Wow! Wow! You inspire me and keep me striving to create and learn and see more differently!
I am really basic in my editing skills — lol — I can Auto Enhance and put words on my photos…. :)
Wow, those are great. Even just playing around with simple editing stuff – like on my phone or on PicMonkey for the blog – there are so many options I get overwhelmed! True artists like yourself know when to stop! :)
You are definitely learning a lot, and each and every one of these is proof of that! I would like to play around with editing more, but there’s just not enough time for everything!
I don’t edit anywhere close to what you do, using just simple online editors. But I do enjoy adjusting shadows, and light etc. and seeing if I can enhance the photo just a bit.
Wow – beautiful post-processing!
Ah, I wish that I could be “zen” about editing. I have so much to learn, and your images really show me that. They are gorgeous!
